The ending

The ending of Shift was not what I expected. I thought that Win died at the end of the book. The ending  kept me on the edge of my seat and it was very suspenceful and interesting. The whole book was good and I loved  it so much.

Shift

The author, Jennifer Bradbury, picked this title because the characters shifted their attitudes and personalities since they had a fight and last saw each other.  Shift also refers to them shifting their gears on their bikes on their cross country bike ride. Their fight was caused about them arguing of being a good friend.

Conflict

The conflict is that Win and Chris get into a fight in a barn in Montana. It is a man vs man conflict because they are arguing and throwing punches at each other.  The conflict is about Win not being a good friend to Chris.

Flashbacks

In the book, the author impliments  flashbacks every other chapter to  tell the reader what happened while they were on the bike ride, and then she switches over to the present so it informs you about what is happening after the bike ride.It flashes into the present when Chris is in college and then it goes back to the bike ride.  By using flashbacks, the author makes the story more suspenceful and entertaining.

Characters

The main characters are: Chris, Win( Winston), Abe Ward, and Win's Dad. Win's Dad went to a rich college and was always manipulative and threatened people if they disobeyed him.  Abe Ward is a detective who has a perfect record and was sent out by Win's Dad, because Win had dissapeared and was carrying almost 20 grand in cash. Win was a foolish young kid who always got in trouble unless Chris was with him.  Chris was the more mature and responsible  kid out of the two, and he almost never got into  any trouble.
